Jennifer Poburan was born in 1987 in Edmonton, Alberta.  She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction from the University of Alberta, and exhibits her paintings as a professional artist in Edmonton. Her portfolio explores ideas around growth and decay in local natural environments, and is expressed physically through patterns of layering and mixed media approaches to the canvas. Poburan has extended her studio practice by producing court drawings for the media, and teaching in the visual arts.  She is the owner of Layering Light Studio, a developing art business created with the goal of connecting artist and community through registered studio workshops and private art instruction.  Poburan teaches studio programs in painting at the City Arts Centre, as well as privately in her home studio. She also works with Studio Art Sessions, who bring quality art programs to schools and organizations through Artist in Residencies.  When she is not teaching or in her studio, Poburan participates as an active board member of the Harcourt House Artist Run Centre.  She aims to make an impact in her community through her various roles as artist, instructor, and collaborator.

Harcourt House Artist Run Centre - Poburan participates in the governing body of directors at the Harcourt House by volunteering time to monthly board meetings, gallery openings, fiscal duties, and fundraisers. Her responsibilities require reviewing matters and making motions on behalf of the society alongside the other members of the board.
Kids With Cancer Society - Starting in the Winter of 2014, Poburan will be working at the KWCS by creating and teaching art classes for children with cancer. The goals of this program are to provide access to art as a vein to express the difficult journey these children, along with their families, go through. It is also a way for families to come together to support each other and have fun engaging with a variety of media in art. Works produced are auctioned at the KWCS Annual Gala in March 2015, and all funds raised go to support the society.
Poburan teaches studio classes in painting through the City Arts Centre, Studio Art Sessions, and privately in her home studio. Her teaching philosophy supports innovative thinking, creativity, and exploration of media to provoke ideas.  She connects students with contemporary art in the community, and brings her own flare and passion through when working in the studios.  She hopes to grow her own studio programs with a connection to riding horses, which is another passion of hers. Currently, Poburan is developing programs that bring together art and horse-back riding which will be available through Putting Horse Ranch in 2015.
Poburan regularly is booked for Face Painting for both public and private community events. She volunteers her time as a co-coordinator for the Edmonton Folk Music Festivals’ Face Painting Crew each year.
Poburan regularly works with the local media in Edmonton courtrooms to produce drawings highlighting major news stories in the city. Through her 7 years of experience she has produced a large portfolio of work, telling a chilling history of crime and justice in Edmonton. She hopes to soon propose an exhibit where the works can be shown publicly.

2013/2014 Alberta Culture Days- Poburan acted as the Artist in Residence for the Alberta Arts Days hosted by the Art Gallery of Alberta. She developed family art workshops for both years of events, and her goal was to provide the community with a new way to connect to art in a fun and engaging way.
April 2013 UofA Museums Celebration – Poburan worked with the UofA Museums to create an engaging printmaking activity to coincide with the opening of printmaking exhibition in Enterprise Square titled Size Matters, as well as the annual Museums Celebration.
